Catholic Schools Week

Catholic Schools Week

This week is catholic schools week. This year's theme is "I belong, you belong, we belong." Pope Francis declared that this year will be an extraordinary year of mercy. The Jubilee year of the Mercy, in fact.

Parents have the opportunity to watch a religion lesson, dance fever, sport or  music lessons. If you want to see your child/children do these things you can book online!

There are 196 catholic schools in Sydney participating in this event for 2016, it is going to be a great week for all of the schools!

On Friday, the 11th of March we have a mass in the morning, at 9:00. Straight after the mass, we have a early recess that parents can join with your children/child. During recess parents can have a picnic with their child, keep in mind it still goes for half an hour.

This year, we are trying to be a better person by doing good deeds, like going to church more, helping people in need, praying to God and donating to the poor.

This is evreything you need to know about, hope you can come to school and see us do these things.

Year 5's Science Experiment

Year 5's Light Science Experiment

Last week year 5 experimented how to make light travel around the corner of a stack of books. We were allowed to use 2 mirrors to get the light around the pile of books. We were also allowed to use as many objects on our table to reflect the light. Some tables shone the light onto the mirror, used the mirror to reflect the light onto an object (e.g. drink bottle) and used that object to reflect light around the books.

You had to put the source of light in a position where it can reflect onto the mirrors and around the books. Because we only had 2 mirrors we didn't get the light around the books, the light source wasn't strong either so it didn't get around.

Last week year five did a science experiment . what we did was we had a pile of books in the middle of the desk and had to get light around the books with two mirrors and a torch most of us put one mirror on the left slightly tilted and one on the right slightly tilted and put the torch facing a mirror.to reflect on to the other mirror to go around the books.

It was great fun testing it out some groups succeeded by getting the light around the books and some did not succeed. After we finished we had to draw a simple labeled areal shot diagram. Then we discussed with our table group what we thought the answers we found in our findings were.

Light and Materials
On Tuesday afternoon we did an experiment to see which materials light would pass through.the materials were a piece of crepe paper, foil, rubber glove, baking paper, yellow cardboard, orange paper and cellophane.

St. Patricks Day

                          St. Patricks Day

On 17th of March the whole of St Paul school had to where a touch of green and bring a gold coin donation. Also there were cakes, jellies, fairy floss and many more sweet treats to be sold for a $1 or less on the day.

We wear green on St. Patrick's day because St. Patrick was originally born and grew up in Island. Island is known as the emerald (green) island. That is why we wear green on St. Patrick's day.

dance fever.

Dance fever

Today we learnt two dances which were the cha cha cha and our hip hop routine. It was really fun  because it was a challenge it was really fast but as you see we did a great job today by keeping in time and being great dancers. Our dance teachers are Jessie and Rachael. They are really funny and fun to dance with!!!They are State Champions all over the world. Jessie's highest place has been 15th and Rachael came second!:) The move we are doing below is called Freeze (The Picture).
we learned 3 parts of dance space, relationship and dynamics it was really fun
but exhausting. We had a great time with our two teachers.

We have already learnt some of our first 2 dances and soon we will be learning the foxtrot.
Year 5 have also learnt something called the tutting exercise.

If we are bored then we can occupy ourselves by making up our own tutting exercise. The teachers are very encouraging and energetic.
we think it is fantastic that the St Paul's students get to express themselves in such a wonderful and interactive way, since we are  learning partner dancing!

Writing

Stimulus Writing

This week we have been using stimulus objects to inspire our writing. When we came into the space there was one object on each desk and we had the opportunity to select the object that inspired us. Then we brainstormed the different types of writing we could work with. They included imaginative, informative and persuasive texts.
We are looking forward to publishing our results.
